DENVER, CO: According to the left-hander's MLB.com profile page, Chasen Shreve has signed a minor league contract with the Rockies. Shreve has rapidly found a new home with the ninth major league club in his 15-year professional career after being dismissed from his previous minor league contract with the Yankees just last Thursday.

Seven of those organizations have had Shreve play Major League baseball; during two previous stints with the Yankees, he played 174 2/3 of his 356 career major league innings.

Shreve will try to break into the Rockies staff and make an official appearance in a game to secure what would be an 11th season in the main leagues after minor deals with the Rangers and Yankees in 2024 prevented him from spending any time in the majors

Shreve boasts remarkable career numbers, including a 3.97 ERA, a 25.3% strikeout rate, and a 10.8% walk rate, considering his journeyman status.  Shreve's last two seasons have been rather inconsistent, though; in 2022, he had a 6.49 ERA in 26 1/3 innings with the Mets, and in 2023, he had a 4.63 ERA in 44 2/3 innings split with the Tigers and Reds.

Shreve's performance during the 2022–2023 season may be better understood given his 3.64 SIERA overall; nonetheless, his 2022 home run rate was especially low due to an unusually high rate of home runs.

Shreve has performed admirably during his stay in Triple-A this season, amassing a 1.89 ERA in 33 1/3 innings pitched for the top affiliates of the Rangers and Yankees.

His ability to pitch so well in the Pacific Coast League (with Triple-A Sugar Land) gives some optimism that he can continue to do so in Albuquerque, another hitter-friendly park.

With the Rockies' terrible bullpen in desperate need of assistance and their dearth of left-handers in the relief corps, it might not be long before Shreve returns to the majors.
