The A’s announced Friday that they’ve acquired right-hander Ross Stripling and cash from the Giants in exchange for minor league outfielder Jonah Cox. In order to clear a spot on the 40-man roster, infielder Jonah Bride was designated for assignment.
Stripling, 34, is a eight-year veteran who has spent the last season in San Francisco. Stripling pitched to a 5.36 ERA across 89.0 innings. Stripling signed a 2-year, $25 million deal with the Giants and is now in Oakland after a tough first season.
Giants are paying down $3.25 million of Stripling’s salary and the A’s will be on the books for the remaining $9.25 million.
Stripling is going to an extremely young ball club. Oakland is without a doubt rebuilding and looking forward to their move to Las Vegas. Stripling will be a big addition to this clubhouse, being a veteran. Stripling will also get this season to audition for other clubs next season.
