Angels Big Off-Season Addition to Miss the 2024 Season

Los Angeles Angels relief pitcher Robert Stephenson will miss the entire 2024 season with an elbow injury. Yet another pitcher will miss the season do to elbow issues. There have been a flurry of pitchers to go on the IL and eventually miss the season due to elbow injuries and the latest one is now Robert Stephenson.

Robert Stephenson joined the Angels this off-season in free agency. It was a 3-year, $33 million deal. Stephenson was one of the Angels big moves. With Robert Stephenson now being out the entire season it will allow the Angels to keep him for just $2.5 million in 2027. This is terrible news for Robert Stephenson who was looking for a fresh start on a new team.

Last year was one of Robert Stephenson best seasons yet. He pitched for the Rays and really broke out in 2023. Stephenson was also a workhorse last season. In 42 appearances, Robert Stephenson had a. 3-1 record, 2.35 ERA, 1 save, just 5 home runs allowed, 0 hit batters, 60 strikeouts, and a 0.678 WHIP. Robert Stephenson really showed a lot of control and accuracy.

This is unfortunate for both the Angels and Robert Stephenson. The Angels showed they were really trying to improve their bullpen and now their biggest bullpen addition will be out. The hope is that Robert Stephenson’s recovery goes well and is back out on the mound in 2025. The Angels need their other pitchers to step up after the unexpected injury news to Robert Stephenson.
