LOS ANGELES, CA: Before the Angels' game against the Cardinals yesterday, they have designated veteran reliever Amir Garrett for assignment.

In order to fill the open slot on the active roster, righty Davis Daniel has been recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake. Due to the transfer, their 40-man roster now stands at 39.

After the Halos picked Garrett's contract in late April, Garrett pitched in six games for the team. The southpaw pitched 5 1/3 innings with a powerful throw. A 14.4% swinging strike percentage allowed him to knock out 11 batters, but he also walked five of the 24 hitters he faced. Garrett gave up four hits, including a home run, and three runs.

For the 32-year-old, that is typical. Since being shifted to the bullpen by the Reds in 2018, Garrett has demonstrated above-average strikeout and walk rates in each of the team's seasons.

He spent a few seasons in Cincinnati as a setup arm before struggling since 2021. Garrett had 123 appearances between 2021 and 2022, compiling a 5.52 ERA. Despite his strong 3.33 mark in 24 1/3 frames for the Royals the previous season, Kansas City cut him loose because to his scattershot command at the All-Star Break.

If cleared waivers, the Angels are likely to outright Garrett. Meaning the eight-year veteran will test free agency in hopes to find his next home.
