Everyone knows how the Mets have been severely underperforming this season. With the highest payroll in baseball, the Mets expectations were extremely high. Then the season started.
Everything that could go wrong for the Mets, has gone wrong. From the injuries to the on field play, things just have not been panning out. However, the Mets have seemingly caught a bit of fire as of late.
As of yesterday, the Mets sit 7 games back of the Phillies for 3rd place. The NL East crown is almost impossible at this point, however, a wildcard spot could be in the future. The second half is approaching and if the Mets big producers can start turning it up a notch, the turnaround in Queens could be a positive one.
With the August 1st trade deadline just 19 games away, if the Mets can find a way to make up some ground in the competitive NL East, they could bring in some help. The Mets 2023 season has been a wild one to say the least, but it could finally be the turn they so desperately need.
