The Houston Astros and catcher Omar Narvaez are in agreement on a minor league deal. Per, Ari Alexander of KPRC-2. Narvaez has served as the Mets backup catcher for the past few seasons. Now, he will join the Astros where he can get a much needed fresh start.

The Mets recently released Omar Narvaez which led to him signing with the Astros. As mentioned above, it is a minor league deal. Narvaez could most definitely make his way back up to the majors with the Astros.

Omar Narvaez was midway through the second season of a two-year, $15 million contract with the Mets. New York still owes the rest of this seasons salary to Narvaez which is $8 million. Houston only has to pay league minimum.

Omar Narvaez has gotten really unlucky this season. He’s had stretches where he wasn’t getting much playing time which can really hurt a player. In 28 games, Narvaez slashed .154/.191/.185, with 0 HR, 5 RBI, and a .376 OPS.

The good thing about Omar Narvaez is that he will always give great effort. Depth is very important in today’s MLB, therefore Narvaez can give really good depth in the catchers position.
