After the Houston Astros game in Philadelphia yesterday, the club optioned outfielder Chas McCormick to Triple-A. Per, Astros beat writer Chandler Rome of the Athletic.
It’s really a shame as to what happened to Chas McCormick. After a really nice season in the majors last year, McCormick had expectations to continue to grow as a big league player. Unfortunately for the Astros and McCormick, it’s been the complete opposite.
The difference from last year and this year for Chas McCormick is very noticeable. In 2023, McCormick started the season off great, and through the entire year he never slowed down. In 115 games last year, McCormick slashed .273/.353/.489, with 22 HR, 70 RBI, and a .842 OPS.
All of Chas McCormick’s numbers are down this year no matter the stat. In 87 games this season, he’s slashing .192/.256/.292, 5 HR, 24 RBI, and a .548 OPS. No one really knows why McCormick’s numbers are down so much.
Now that Chas McCormick will be in Triple-A, he has the chance to find his swing again on a lower level. It was a good decision by the Astros to give McCormick a little break from the majors. The hope is that McCormick can have the same results as he was in 2023 when he returns to the MLB.
