The Houston Astros lost their manager, Dusty Baker, to retirement after being eliminated in the 2023 MLB postseason. The Astros are expected to announced that they have hired bench coach Joe Espada. Espada is highly respected within the organization and was expected from the beginning to take reigns.

The Astros have been in the middle of their dynasty for the last seven seasons. Espada is reportedly taking over a team that has plenty of experience, a good situation to take over. Espada has spent the last six seasons as the Astros bench coach, after coming over from the Yankees prior to the 2018 season. Espada previously managed in the Puerto Rico Winter League.

Espada has interviewed in the past for a managerial position in MIA, SF, and CHI (AL). Having worked under A.J. Hinch and Dusty Baker, Espada has been around some great baseball minds. Although the situation is great to enter, the pressure will be on Espada to continue the success that Houston fans have become accustomed to.
