WASHINGTON DC: Astros manager Joe Espada informed reporters that right-hander Cristian Javier has been withdrawn from his planned start against the Nationals yesterday and will be added to the 15-day IL.
This Astros club has taken hit after hit when it comes to pitching. It surely has not given them any favors as they have started the season 7-16. When taking a dive into their pitching, we'll find that their pitching as a whole has pitched to a 29th ranked 5.10 ERA across the game. The problem for them, their offense has yet to pick up the pitching.
Although the season hasn’t gone to planned for the Stros, none of that can be blamed on Javier. The 27-year old has compiled a 1.54 ERA across 23.1 innings of work. Javier will now be joining the likes of Framber Valdez, Jose Urquidy, Lance McCullers Jr., and Luis Garcia on the IL.
One bright spot for Houston is their veteran ace Justin Verlander who recently returned from injury last week. The Astros pitching staff is without a doubt beaten right now. With the southpaw Javier being sidelined, things don’t seem to be getting better anytime soon.
