The Oakland Athletics have re-signed their backup catcher from last year, Carlos Pérez. The deal includes an invite to major league spring training. Carlos Pérez, 33, has played five seasons at the MLB level. Pérez has played with Los Angeles (AL), Atlanta, and Oakland. Pérez played with Oakland in 2023 and now he will stay with them and play another year with the Athletics.

From 2019-2022, Carlos Pérez didn't play in the MLB. So, he played in MLB the years of 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2023. Carlos Pérez has proven himself to be a solid backup catcher. Pérez has played 280 career games at the MLB level, he's slashed .218/.265/.327, with 17 HR's, 78 RBI's, and a .592 OPS. It's not the best stats, but for a backup catcher it's solid.

This spring training is going to be important for Carlos Pérez. He has the chance to prove himself in 2024 to be at the MLB level with the Athletics. Carlos Pérez will have to work hard to earn himself a spot on the major league roster, it's never easy in the MLB to play at the highest level in baseball.
