Oakland Athletics starting pitcher Ken Waldichuk is slated for elbow surgery on Wednesday, according to Martín Gallegos of MLB.com. The club is not providing any further details until after Waldichuck’s surgery. In addition, the A’s selected right-handed pitcher Aaron Brooks to fill the roster spot, he will start on Wednesday.
Ken Waldichuck has yet to pitch all season long. Depending on the type of surgery he gets, he won’t pitch at all this season. It was announced last week that Waldichuck would be seeing Dr. Neal ElAttrache yesterday. He recommended surgery for Waldichuck.
Last year was a fully healthy season for Ken Waldichuck. He didn’t deal with any injuries, this season, it has been all about injuries for him. That’s the very unfortunate thing, especially when you’re expecting to have another healthy season in the big leagues.
Ken Waldichuck stats in 2023:
22 starts, 13 relief appearances, 141.0 IP, 4-9 record, 5.36 ERA, 132 strikeouts, 1.56 WHIP.
Once Ken Waldichuck’s surgery is officially in the books, that’s when his recovery to make a return begins. There have been a lot of pitcher injuries this year, and Ken Waldichuck is the latest one. It’s awful to see injuries in sports, especially major ones.
