John Angelos, former Baltimore Orioles owner, has agreed to sell the Orioles to David Rubenstein and Mike Arougheti, two private equity billionaires. Per, John Ourand of Puck News.
It was also announced that longtime Oriole, Cal Ripken Jr., is apart of the new Orioles ownership group. According to Andy Kostka. Cal Ripken Jr. is a Orioles legend, and he played with them his entire 21-year career.
This is huge news for many people within the Orioles organization. The players, fans, and obviously the front office.
The Orioles old owner, John Angelos, has said something very interesting in the past. He said the only way the team could afford to keep its young core in Baltimore would be by raising prices "massively".
John Angelos exact quote:
When talking about the Orioles "young core", people are talking about all the young talent the Orioles have. Such as, Adley Rutschman, Gunnar Henderson, Austin Hayes, Heston Kjerstad, Jordan Westburg, Grayson Rodriguez, Colton Cowser, and Jackson Holliday. Also some others.
This mindset that the former Orioles owner had, could certainly change with the new owners. It would be great for all of baseball if the Orioles started spending more money, and it could definitely now happen with this major news.
