The Atlanta Braves placed catcher Sean Murphy on the 10-day IL due to an oblique strain. This injury occurred in the Braves game yesterday against the Phillies on a swing. Murphy exited after he felt something after the swing.
The Braves are one of the few teams who has a really solid backup catcher. Their backup catcher is Travis d'Arnuad. Sean Murphy is obviously the Braves starting catcher, but d'Arnuad is a good backup catcher to have on a team who already has a bunch of stars in their lineup.
Sean Murphy spoke on the injury news after their win over the Phillies:
"Hopefully it’s minor and be back sooner than later”
An oblique strain usually takes a few weeks for the player to be healthy again.
Sean Murphy has solidified himself as one of the top catchers in all of baseball over the past few seasons. The Braves are a much better team with Sean Murphy, although for now Travis d'Arnuad will have to step up in Murphy's absence.
The season just began, it's never good to have an injury this early in the season. Although, it's better to have an injury now rather then later in the season. Hopefully Sean Murphy can have a speedy recovery and be back out their soon after he heals up.
