The Atlanta Braves announced a few roster moves. They signed infielder Joey Wendle and recalled left hander Ray Kerr. As the corresponding moves, the club optioned infielder Luke Williams and right hander AJ Smith-Shawver was placed on the 15-day IL. The biggest move out of that was signing Joey Wendle.
This will be Joey Wendle’s second team of the season in just May. He started out the season in Queens with the New York Mets. On Monday, Wendle was DFA’d by them, and just under a week later Wendle found himself a new home in Atlanta.
In total, this will be Wendle’s 5th team in his 9th season at the big league level. He has been apart of the Oakland Athletics, Tampa Bay Rays, Miami Marlins, New York Mets, and now the Atlanta Braves.
Throughout his whole entire big league career, Joey Wendle has never been known for his offense. He’s had some good offensive seasons. Although, Wendle is known for his defensive and versatility. Any team would take a flyer on a guy who can play around the diamond at a solid level like Joey Wendle can.
