Cardinals Utility Man Will Begin the Season on the Injured List

The St. Louis Cardinals manager, Oli Marmol announced that Tommy Edman will begin the 2024 season on the injured list. Edman will be shut down from hitting entirely the rest of the week and next week. The reason Tommy Edman will begin the season on the IL is due to a wrist injury.

While Tommy Edman is out, the Cardinals will most definitely miss his versatility. Edman can play many different positions at a high level. Tommy Edman can play 2B, SS, 3B, LF, CF, and RF. Any team would want a player like that, so any time that Edman misses will be a hit to the Cardinals.

Tommy Edman is just 28-years-old. He's still a young player. Edman is entering his sixth season in MLB. Last year, Edman started in 137 games, he slashed .248/.307/.399, with 13 HR's, 47 RBI's, 27 SB, and a .705 OPS. Edman is mainly a contact hitter, but he does have some pop in his bat.

The hope for the Cardinals is that Tommy Edman can rest for about a week without hitting and he can be healthy after that. Tommy Edman shouldn't miss to much time in the regular season. The Cardinals need Tommy Edman's ability to play multiple positions, it opens up a lot of different choices.
