Cubs Place Starter on 15-Day IL

The Chicago Cubs have placed left-handed pitcher Justin Steele on the 15-day injured list. He has been dealing with left elbow tendinitis. As the corresponding move, the Cubs recalled right-handed pitcher Trey Wintenter from Triple-A Iowa.

There’s a chance Justin Steele’s season is over. The Cubs currently sit at 4.5 games out of the third wild card spot. There is just about 25 days left until the playoffs. Steele will be on the injured list for at least 15 days.

This is the worst possible time for this to happen to the Cubs. Justin Steele has been one of their most important starting pitcher this whole entire season. Their other consistent starter has been Shota Imanaga. Now, Imanaga will have to step up just like he did yesterday after throwing 7 no-hit innings.

Justin Steele has had a great breakout year for the Cubs. He’s been consistent all season long. In 22 starts, Steele has pitched 128 innings. He has a record of 5-5, 3.09 ERA, 131 strikeouts, and a 1.09 WHIP.

The hope for the Cubs is that they can get Justin Steele back before the season is over. They aren’t totally out of playoff contention so it would be huge for the Cubs to get Justin Steele back when he can come of the injured list.
