PITTSBURGH, PA: The Chicago Cubs have placed shortstop Dansby Swanson on the 10-day IL with a right knee sprain. The move is retroactive to May 8. The corresponding move is reinstating outfielder Seiya Suzuki from the IL.
Swanson signed a 7-year, $177 million contract with the Chicago Cubs in the offseason of 2022. Since then, Swanson has slashed .238/.320/.402 with 26 home runs. In 2024, the shortstop is slashing .209/.285/.341 with 4 home runs.
Swanson has not had the start, with the bat, to his Chicago tenure as he or the Cubs may have hoped. However, Swanson is still providing his stellar defense along with his speed on the base paths. The 30-year old has had his fair share of big moments with the Cubs and has provided a spark to the Cubs clubhouse.
"It was probably best, take some rest. My pride doesn't like it, but here we are."

"He just wasn't getting better and it was probably getting worse."

The 30-year old veteran shortstop’s time table is to be determined. Nico Hoerner is expected to slide to shortstop while Swanson rehabs from his right knee strain that will put him on the 10-day IL.
