D-Backs Sign Veteran Catcher to Minor League Deal

The Diamondbacks have signed free agent catcher, Tucker Barnhart to a minor league deal that includes an invite to spring training, per Robert Murray of FanSided. Barnhart has spent ten years in the big leagues, spending time with Cincinnati, Detroit, and Chicago (NL).

Barnhart spent the first eight years of his career as the go to catcher behind the dish for Cincinnati. He spent his 2023 season with the Cubs and slashed .202/.285/.257 with just a single home run. His offensive numbers have never wowed, but his value on defense makes up for his slow bat.

If Barnhart makes the club after spring training, he will likely find himself platooning at backstop, with young stud Gabriel Moreno earning the starting spot. Barnhart was once regarded as a decent catcher in his time with Cincinnati. With Barnhart finding his way to the desert, this might be exactly what he needs to find his former production.
