The Arizona Diamondbacks knocked off the Philadelphia Phillies 5-1 to force the first game 7 in the history of Citizens Bank Park. Coming into Philadelphia down 3-2 was a tall task for the Diamondbacks to overcome. With the bats and an impressive performance from Merrill Kelly, they did just that.
Merrill Kelly has been the second starter for Arizona, behind Zac Gallen, and has lived up to expectations. Pitching in front of the Philadelphia crowd is challenging, let alone pitching just one run ball. Kelly was lights out and gave the Diamondbacks 5 innings.
The Arizona offense was just as impressive as Merrill Kelly. An offense led by Ketel Marte who had 2 RBI along with 2 hits, scored early and got on Aaron Nola. The young and hungry bats for Arizona fed off each other and silenced the crowd quite quickly.
Game 7 will now consist of Arizona's rookie sensation Brandon Pfaadt against Philadelphia's Ranger Suarez. First pitch will be tonight at 8:07 PM. The Phillies need to keep the crowd into the game all night long and the Diamondbacks need to replicate what they did last night. The winner will return to the Fall Classic to take on the Texas Rangers.
