The Los Angeles Dodgers and right-handed pitcher Blake Snell are in agreement on a 5-year, $182m deal. The deal includes deferred money. Snell posted himself in a Dodgers uniform (photo above) minutes before Jeff Passan of ESPN reported the news. This is the first big name player to sign this off-season.
Just about a month ago the Dodgers won the 2024 World Series. A month later, the Dodgers have signed one of the top pitchers on the free-agent market to a massive deal. It’s pretty incredible the Dodgers are always able to make moves like this.
It was in question if Blake Snell would even be a free-agent this off-season. He had a opt out in his contract with the San Francisco Giants. He decided to use it, and is give a huge contract by the Dodgers. It will be a total of $36.4m a year.
It was an up and down 2024 season for Blake Snell. He began the season looking rough and had some injuries. To finish it, he was one of the best pitchers. Snell pitched a total of 20 games, 104.0 IP, 5-3 record, 145 SO, 3.12 ERA, and a 1.05 WHIP.
It’s expected that the Dodgers make many more notable moves this off-season. Blake Snell is a huge addition and the Dodgers will look to win back to back World Series. They certainly have a great shot at doing it.
