The Los Angeles Dodgers announced that RHP Emmet Sheehan had season-ending right elbow UCL surgery. Dr. Neal ElAttrache performed a successful surgery in L.A. yesterday. Sheehan has yet to pitch this year due to the same injury. The Dodgers and doctors thought it was best to just get Tommy John Surgery and have him heal up the rest of the season.
The Dodgers had big plans for Emmet Sheehan this season. They saw him pitching in the rotation this season. Now, those plans will be ruined and they will have to pivot to a different type of plan. This is a huge blow to the Dodgers and very unfortunate for the 24-year-old Emmet Sheehan.
Emmet Sheehan was one of the most surprising young pitchers on the Dodgers last season. He impressed a ton of people. In his final 3 appearances of 2023, he went 13.2 innings, allowing just 3 runs while striking out 24 batters.
When injuries happen in baseball it’s awful, especially for young players like Emmet Sheehan. He has a long career ahead of him. Once Emmet Sheehan fully recovers the hope is he can return at some point in 2025. It’s going to be a long journey for Sheehan, but his journey to a return begins now.
