BRONX, NY: The New York Yankees pulled off a blockbuster trade just a few months when the acquired young superstar Juan Soto from the San Diego Padres. Since then, he’s been exactly what the Bronx Bombers have been needing and wanting for years. Another generational talent to pair with captain Aaron Judge.
Soto has made his presence immediate in New York. Soto is slashing .310/.408/.530 on the year with 9 home runs. His 29 walks may just be the tale of the tape for the squad as a whole. The Yankees have been needing a talent that walks and Soto does just that.
Soto has been quite open on the idea of an extension with the Yankees. Stating..
"My door is always open. If they wanna call Scott and start talking about it, it's up to them."
Yankees chairman Hal Steinbrenner appeared on the Yankees News & Views podcast yesterday and host Jack Curry of the YES Network asked him about the possibility of extending the superstar outfielder..
"I think we'd like to see him here for the rest of his career," Steinbrenner said. "I don't think there's any doubt of that."
For both agent Scott Boras and Hal Steinbrenner, they both typically like to wait until the offseason to start discussions. Soto could be the difference here.
Soto turned down a 15-year, $440 million extension from the Nationals in 2022 before his departure to San Diego. Soto’s price has all but raised since then. If the Yankees want to extend the 25-year old, it’s going to come at a price likely higher than the one given to Yankee captain Aaron Judge.
Soto’s talent has been generational. His stats prove he is on his way to Cooperstown. With the fit in New York, it is seemingly without question that the Yankees need to extend Soto. The question is, will they?
