Former All-Star Receives Big Update For Return

Hyun Jin Ryu via MLB

Hyun Jin Ryu has been on the injured list since June of 2022 after receiving Tommy John surgery. He made just six starts last season and has finally made enough progress to begin pitching in rehab starts.

Per Keegan Matheson from MLB.com, Ryu will pitch for AAA Buffalo later today. It marks yet another step in his recovery as he gets one step closer to being back in Toronto.

The Blue Jays are looking for Ryu to pitch around 65 pitches and if all goes as planned, he will pitch another outing or two in AAA.

The Blue Jays pitching staff has had some bumps in the road, starting with Alek Manoah. While he makes his way back, adding an arm like Hyun Jin Ryu back into this rotation, could be a major step in the right direction for Toronto.
