Giants Biggest Off-Season Addition Will Hit the 15-Day IL

The San Francisco Giants announced yesterday that starting pitcher Blake Snell will be placed on the 15-day injured list due to a left adductor strain. Pitcher Landen Roupp was recalled from Triple-A as the corresponding move. Blake Snell didn’t sign until very late in the off-season, so he missed the entire Spring Training. That was a big story this entire off-season.

Blake Snell signed a two-year, $62 million deal to join the Giants. There were many teams interested in Snell throughout the entire off-season, but in the end it was the Giants who stepped up and paid Blake Snell. It’s unfortunate that Snell didn’t have a Spring Training to buildup his arm, that could be a factor in the injury this early in the season.

Last year Blake Snell was with the Padres. He was the National League Cy-Young winner. He had a great season. Snell was off to a poor start in 2024 with his new club, the Giants. In just three starts and 11.2 IP, Snell was 0-3, he posted an 11.57 ERA, just 12 strikeouts, and a 1.97 WHIP.

The Giants were expecting a lot out of Blake Snell, he hasn’t lived up to those expectations. The hope is that Blake Snell will return to his normal self when he comes back from injury. The Giants currently sit at 12-14. They need Blake Snell to turn it around, hopefully he does that when he returns.
