SAN DIEGO, CA: The San Francisco Giants announced yesterday that they have designated former No. 2 overall pick in the 2018 draft, Joey Bart, for assignment. The former prized prospect will hit the free agent market after being the claimed heir to Giants great, Buster Posey.

Bart, 27, has not had the success he or the Giants had ever hoped for. Across 162 total games for the Giants, Bart slashed just .219.288/.335 with a 78 wRC+ and 11 HR.

Per Susan Slusser of The San Francisco Chronicle, Bart had this to say after the news broke.

"I'm excited for a new opportunity and wish the best to everyone with the Giants."

The four-year veteran never had the capability of putting things together in San Francisco. The talent was always there which indicates that Bart may find his way on to a new club in the near future. The once hyped prospect will be on the lookout to find a permanent home.
