SAN FRANCISCO, CA: The San Francisco Giants announced that they have placed veteran righty Blake Snell on the 15-day IL with a left groin strain, per the club.
"Overall it felt good, felt confident. Stuff is there... It's definitely a bummer. It's frustrating but, gotta look onto what's next."
-Blake Snell on his injury
Snell, 31, was the Giants big splash this offseason. Since then, the pairing has not worked out to the way both parties had hoped. Snell is currently pitching to a 10.42 ERA, hasn't pitched a full five innings, and has two IL stints so far this year.
The veteran was one of the last big free agent names to cross off the board. It is a testament to how important a full spring training is, especially for pitchers.
Snell will now head to the IL for a multiple time this season and will look forward to his rehab. It’s been a crazy ride thus far for the Giants and Snell. With plenty of season to play, Snell could turn his season around quickly. Afterall, the veteran is a two-time Cy Young Award winner.
