CLEVELAND, OH: Steven Kwan, an outfielder with the Guardians, has been placed on the 10-day disabled list. Myles Straw's contract has been chosen to replace his on the playing roster. Carlos Carrasco, a right-hander who is now on the 15-day injured list, has been designated for assignment in order to free up a position on the 40-man roster for Straw.
Since September 12, Kwan has not participated in any games. On September 13, the team withdrew him from the lineup, citing bodily tiredness as the cause, according to Mandy Bell of MLB.com. Bell later reported that manager Stephen Vogt identified the problem as back discomfort.
Kwan's expected absence from the club is unknown, but it appears they want him to take at least a week off. The Guardians have most likely backdated Kwan's IL stint by up to three days if the player has been out of the lineup. The Guards will be without one of the top contact hitters in the league for whatever long he is gone.
In just 9.4% of his plate appearances this year, Kwan has been struck out. Only Luis Arráez has struck out less often this season among eligible hitters. Though Kwan isn't usually a power threat, he has more than doubled his career high of six home runs with 13 this season. He is slashing .291/.364/.419 on the year, while posting a 127 wRC+.
