The Marlins are in the midst of a playoff race. The season is late, and the Marlins lose two key players. First, they place P, Sandy Alcantara on the IL. Then, they placed OF/DH, Jorge Soler on the IL.
Sandy Alcantara was placed on the 15-day IL due to a right forearm flexor strain. Jorge Soler was placed on the IL due to a right oblique strain.
Both of these players are pretty important to the Marlins. Sandy Alcantara got off to a rough start to the season, but as of late he's been solid. This year in 28 starts, Alcantara has pitched 184.2 IP, 4.14 ERA, 151 SO, and a 1.21 WHIP. Jorge Soler has started in 126 games, he's slashing .240/.329/.513, with that, he's hit 35 HR's, 71 RBI's, and a .842 OPS.
The Marlins we're looking pretty good recently to make the playoffs. Although, this is the last thing they needed, there's still a chance, but a lot of hopes of the Marlins making the playoffs have been crushed.
