Per Craig Mish of MLB Network, Sandy Alcantara felt forearm tightness after his rehab appearance last night and he won't pitch again this season. With the Marlins currently 0.5 games back of a wildcard spot, the news of Alcantara could not have come at a worse time.
Fresh off of a 2022 CY Young Award, Alcantara's 2023 has not gone to planned. Sporting a 4.14 ERA with 151 strikeouts and a 7-12 record, Alcantara has been a bit off from his normal self. However, the impact he has on the Marlins is irreplaceable. With the Marlins hope of a playoff spot still alive, Alcantara is a huge loss.
The Marlins are a young and coming team. Getting Sandy back in 2024 healthy has to be the top priority. With the news, the Marlins are doing just that.
