New York Mets manager Carlos Mendoza announced that second baseman Jeff McNeil will be out the remainder of the 2024 season with a wrist fracture. This is tough news for the Mets who are currently fighting for the final Wild Card spot in the National League.
Jeff McNeil was hit by a 74 MPH ball in his wrist. He was wearing a pad, he even laughed it off and thought everything will be ok, unfortunately his season will now be over.
The Mets currently have a one game lead for the final Wild Card spot. Jeff McNeil was asked if his season is fully over even if the Mets make the playoffs, here is his response:
"If you see me on the field, that's a really good thing. That means we're deep in the playoffs."
Jeff McNeil had a really rough first half of the season. Although, as of late he’s turned things around for the better. In 129 games, McNeil is slashing .238/.308/.384, 12 HR, 44 RBI, and a .692 OPS.
The Mets have been a much better team in the second half. That’s because players like Jeff NcNeil have been contributing a lot. Now, the Mets will be without McNeil for a while. Hopefully if the Mets make the playoffs McNeil will be able to play at some point.
