According to Jon Heyman of the NY Post, the New York Mets have been in contact with free-agent designated hitter, J.D. Martinez. The Mets have been looking for a DH, and J.D. Martinez would fit perfectly as the DH of the Mets.
There's no indication that a deal is done. Although, the Mets have had a solid off-season. They've added pitchers and also position players. It's a good sign for the Mets fans that they're showing interest in J.D. Martinez.
J.D. Martinez played for the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2023. He only played in LA for one year, but with them adding Shohei Ohtani, there will be no room in the Dodgers lineup for Martinez because the designated hitter spot will be filled.
In Martinez's one year with the Dodgers, he was an All-Star. J.D. Martinez's stats showed why he was an All-Star. In 113 games, Martinez slashed .271/.321/.572, with 33 HR's, 103 RBI's, and a .893 OPS.
Adding J.D. Martinez to the Mets lineup would give the Mets a really solid designated hitter. It would make the Mets lineup deeper. It would be big for the Mets to get a deal done with J.D. Martinez.
