The New York Mets No. four prospect, Ronny Mauricio tore his ACL in a Dominican Winter League Game. This is terrible news for the Mets, and even all of baseball. Mauricio was expected to play a big part in the New York Mets 2024 season, now he will be out for the year.
Ronny Mauricio, just 22-years-old, was expected to be starter in the MLB for the Mets in 2024. The Mets gave Mauricio a shot in the big leagues last year for the first time, and he impressed a lot of people during his short time in the MLB in 2023.
It's just a small sample size for Ronny Mauricio's stats at the major league level. Although, he's shown flashes of being a star. In just 101 plate appearances, Mauricio slashed .248/.296/.347, with 2 HR's, 9 RBI's, and a .643 OPS. It may not look like the best stats, but as mentioned above Mauricio has shown flashes of being a star.
The Mets will now have to think of a plan B as where they want to go for their starters. They could sign a veteran piece like Justin Turner who had a good season with the Red Sox last year. It's a shame that this had to happen, but hopefully Ronny Mauricio can make a speedy recovery.
