NL All-Star Starting Pitcher has been Announced

Yesterday on the Dan Patrick Show, Pirates starting pitcher Paul Skenes received amazing news. Torey Lovullo is the Diamondbacks manager, but this year he will be the manager of the National League All-Star team. While Skenes was on the show, Lovullo called in and informed him that he will be the starting pitcher of the NL All-Star team.

This is Paul Skenes rookie season. He is taking the entire league by storm. Each and every start he continues to show why he can be one of the best pitchers in all of baseball. Skenes is also coming off of a start where he tossed 7 no-hit innings.

There are just 5 pitchers in the history of MLB to start the All-Star game in their rookie season.

Here is the list:

Dave Stenhouse, 1962

Mark Firdrych, 1976

Fernando Valenzuela, 1981

Hideo Nomo, 1995

Paul Skenes, 2024

The amazing part in this whole situation is that Paul Skenes has only made 11 starts. In those 11 starts, he has 66.1 IP, 6-0 record, 1.90 ERA, 89 SO, and a 0.92 WHIP.

There’s no question that Paul Skenes has been great since being called up. He’s just continuing his dominance in every start he makes. It’s been incredible for everyone in MLB to be able to watch Paul Skenes dominate every team he faces.
