Orioles Acquire Ace in Trade With Brewers

The Baltimore Orioles and the Milwaukee Brewers completed a trade last night that sent RHP Corbin Burnes to Baltimore in exchange for SS Joey Ortiz and LHP D.L. Hall, per Jeff Passan of ESPN. Also heading to Milwaukee is the 34th pick in the 2024 draft.

Corbin Burnes has been one of the best pitchers in baseball over the last few years. His addition to the Orioles rotation is such a big deal. The Orioles needed an ace and pitching depth extremely bad. It was the one hole that was glaring.

Burnes has shown dominance in the league and is a proven ace. His resume includes an ERA title, 2021 Cy Young Award, and is a 3x all-star. Last season, Burnes posted a 3.39 ERA across 193.2 innings. His 2021 season saw him pitch to a 2.43 ERA.

This move without a doubt puts the Orioles back into AL East favorite. The Orioles are wasting no time with new ownership and have finally gone all in. Baltimore baseball is at a high that we haven't seen in years. The addition of Burnes shows that this Baltimore team is going to take that next step that we saw them reach last season.

Heading back to Milwaukee is MLB's No. 63 overall prospect, shortstop Joey Ortiz as well as left-handed pitcher D.L. Hall. The Brewers are getting a top-flight defensive shortstop in Ortiz, and a pitcher who will likely slide into their rotation in Hall. Hall is a for sure bullpen piece who has some great potential. The only problem for the Brewers? They could have gotten a lot more for Burnes.
