BALTIMORE, MD: The Baltimore Orioles have signed veteran INF Jean Segura to a minor league deal, per Roch Kubatko of MASN.
Segura hasn't appeared in a game since the Guardians released him in August of last year, but he will now receive another opportunity with the Orioles, this time as Triple-A Norfolk's organizational depth.
After hitting just.219/.277/.279 in 326 plate appearances last season, the 34-year-old infielder is unlikely to have a significant effect in the major leagues at this point in his career.
Jean Segura and the Miami Marlins agreed to a two-year, $17,000,000 contract that included a $17,000,000 guarantee and a $8,500,000 average salary back in 2023. He would have been set to become a free agent after the 2025 season.
Segura is no stranger to the game. The 12-year veteran has called Seattle, Arizona, Los Angeles (AL), Miami, Milwaukee, and Philadelphia home. The two-time All-Star has slashed a career .281/.327/.401 while compiling 26.2 WAR. The veteran will likely call his time as a Major Leaguer over soon.
