BALTIMORE, MD: The Orioles announced Wednesday that they’ve placed right-hander Grayson Rodriguez on the 15-day injured list due to inflammation in his right shoulder. The move is retroactive to April 30.

Rodriguez will be replaced by veteran lefty John Means, who has been reinstated from a stint on the 15-day IL himself. Means has yet to pitch this season while recovering from a left forearm strain, per Steve Adams of MLBTradeRumors.com

Rodriguez started Monday night’s game and went 5 2/3 innings. As Rodriguez stayed in the game, he finished his outing with 101 pitches. It is unclear whether or not Rodriguez will be out long term.

Rodriguez was the 11th overall pick in the 2018 MLB Draft by the Orioles and has been a highly touted prospect ever since. The 24 year old is pitching to a 4-1 record with a 3.71 ERA in 2024.

Obviously Rodriguez’s injury comes at a price for the O’s. The youngster has the ability to be a difference maker for this young Orioles club and really push their rotation into elite status. For the time being and until further updates, Rodriguez will undergo the IL process.
