The Baltimore Orioles have announced that they placed left handed pitcher John Means on the 15-day injured list due to a left forearm strain. As the corresponding move, the club has called up right handed pitcher Johnathan Heasley from Triple-A Norfolk.
As of the past few years, John Means has had the worst luck when it comes to injuries. First, in 2022 Means underwent season-ending Tommy John surgery. Fast forward to now, Means has another injury. He has made a total of just 10 starts since the 2022 season.
The thing that hurts the most for the Orioles and John Means is the fact that he was off to a tremendous start in 2024. Now everything will be pushed back.
John Means stats in 2024:
4 starts, 20.2 IP, 2-0 record, 2.61 ERA, 16 strikeouts, and a 0.87 WHIP.
The strikeout numbers aren’t high but Means was getting the job done. He was giving the Orioles a lot for the role that they expected him to be in.
The Baltimore Orioles have picked up where they left off last season. Teams can always use starting pitching in the MLB. The Orioles will have to be without one of their top producers for a little bit. Hopefully John Means can heal up quickly.
