The San Diego Padres have acquired closer Tanner Scott from the Miami Marlins. Per, Jeff Passan of ESPN. Scott was the best available relief pitcher, and the Padres are the team who landed him.

Here is the full trade between the Padres and Marlins:

Padres receive: LHP Tanner Scott and RHP Bryan Hoeing

Marlins receive: LHP Robby Snelling, RHP Adam Mazur, IF Graham Pauley, and IF Jay Beshears.

Those four players were the Padres No. 2 prospect, 4th prospect, 5th prospect, and 24th prospect. It was a massive haul but it was expected with how good Tanner Scott has performed this season.

The Padres have built one of the most dominant bullpens in all of baseball. It includes Tanner Scott, Robert Suarez, Jason Adam, Jeremiah Estrada, and Adrian Morejon. That is such a great bullpen for the Padres.

Tanner Scott was an All-Star this season. He has pitched like one all season long. It’s pretty remarkable what Scott has done this season. In 44 games, he has a 6-5 record, 45.2 IP, 1.18 ERA, 53 SO, and a 1.01 WHIP.

Those numbers are some of the best in the game. The Padres will be able to use Tanner Scott as a closer since that’s what he’s most used to. The Padres have a serious shot at making the playoffs after a move like this.
