It is no secret that the Padres have thrown the idea out of trading their superstar OF, Juan Soto, who is set to become a free agent after the 2024 season. Soto, 25, is regarded as a generational talent and one of the best players in the sport. With the Padres financial situation, this news comes at no surprise.

The one team that has been kicking the tires the most, seemingly, are the New York Yankees. The Yankees are at a situation in which the desperately need a player like Soto. The good news for them, the Padres may just be as desperate to deal him.

Per Andy Martino of SNY, "While the exact names are not known, the Padres are said to be looking at top prospects/rookies like Jasson Dominguez and Anthony Volpe, young major league pitchers in the Michael King/Clarke Schmidt category, and more. That is standard behavior at the beginning of trade talks for a superstar player. It was also standard behavior for the Yankees to say no, but want to keep talking".

This is obviously the beginning stages of a negotiation. It is also worth mentioning that any trade for Soto is a one-year rental. He is fully intending to be a free agent after the 2024 season. With Scott Boras as his agent, that comes at no shock.

The Yankees will do their due diligence and figure out what works best for them. However, Hal Steinbrenner and Brian Cashman knows that they have to make some big splashes this offseason. After finishing 82-80 and having their worst season in nearly 30 years, the fanbase is not happy. The good news for them? A Juan Soto deal to the New York Yankees is a deal that would benefit not only them, but the fanbase.
