Pirates Claim Veteran INF off Waivers

The Pittsburgh Pirates have claimed infielder Niko Goodrum off waivers from the Los Angeles Angels. According to both of the teams announcements. The Pirates right away optioned Goodrum to Triple-A Indianapolis. To open up a spot on the 40-man roster for him, RHP Ben Heller was DFA’d.

Niko Goodrum’s time with the LA Angels was very shot lived. About a month ago, he was claimed off waivers from the Rays and only appeared in 4 big league games with the Angels. They figured they didn’t need him and now Goodrum finds himself at a new home with the Angels.

As mentioned above, Niko Goodrum has gotten barley any playing time as a member of the Angels. In 29 at-bats, he has just a .103 avg. There is not much you can do when you don’t get any playing time. Hopefully Niko Goodrum can find his way up to the big leagues with the Pirates and earn himself some playing time.

Niko Goodrum will serve as a solid depth piece. He is a great clubhouse guy. Goodrum will go well with Andrew McCutchen. They are both veteran players who are respected by many people.

Niko Goodrum will now find himself on his sixth MLB team. He has been a decent player his whole entire career. Niko Goodrum has supplied help to any team he’s been on and he will now be able to do that with the Pirates.
