The Rangers announced yesterday, that RHP Jacob DeGrom will undergo UCL surgery. This comes days after transferring the ace to the 60-day IL.
Jacob DeGrom's talent has never been in question. His talent could make him the best pitcher this game has ever seen. However, as everyone knows, he just cannot stay on the field every five days.
The former back-to-back CY Young Award winner has not pitched since April 28 when he exited early against the Yankees.
DeGrom had this to say as he was fighting back tears:
"This stinks. It's not ideal. But at least we know what it is now. I want to get it fixed and will set a goal to be back before the end of next year."
The Rangers inked DeGrom to a five-year $185 million contract back in early December of 2022. DeGrom was expected to turn this pitching staff into one of the league's best. That will not be the case until next season.
Luckily, the Rangers have been fine without DeGrom. Atop of the AL West at the moment, the Rangers are holding down the fort with a 39-20 record, holding a 3.5 game lead.
