Rangers Call up Yet Another Prospect, No. 5 Gets the Call

ST. PETERSBURG, FL: The Texas Rangers are calling up No. 5 prospect Justin Foscue. Foscue, 25, was a first-round pick in 2020 and can play first, second and third base. He’ll fill the roster spot of Josh Jung, whose right wrist was broken when a pitch hit it Monday, per Jeff Passan of ESPN.

Foscue prioritizes hitting over power in his skill set. He has played in the top minors the previous two seasons, showing off his exceptional bat-to-ball abilities. In 460 Double-A plate appearances in 2022, he slashed.288/.367/.483, and in 563 Triple-A plate appearances last year, he slashed .266/.394/.468.

Foscue had this to say on his call up..

"I knew I might be an option, but I've been in that spot before, and I didn't want to get my hopes up," Foscue said. "I thought I was going to be pretty calm, but when he called me, I kind of started tripping. I was like, 'Oh, my God! I don't know what's going on right now.' It was a really good phone call. Usually, I'm good with words, and I just didn't really know what to say in that moment."

Bruce Bochy said Ezequiel Duran and Josh Smith will likely split third base, with Justin Foscue with Nathaniel Lowe and Jared Walsh at first. Foscue has impressed and will look to continue that in the big leagues.
