The Rangers announced yesterday that RHP Max Scherzer is dealing with a teres major strain and will be shut down for the rest of the regular season. Added, Scherzer is unlikely to pitch in any postseason game and surgery is currently not needed.
Scherzer was dealt at the 2023 trade deadline to the Rangers from the Mets. Since then, Scherzer has posted a 3.20 ERA with 53 strikeouts in 45.0 innings pitched.
This is obviously a brutal blow to the Rangers who are already having a fallout and are in danger of losing out of the 2023 postseason. With the Rangers already in a downward spiral, Max Scherzer was a must, especially in the postseason. Scherzer will rehab and get back on track to pitch in 2024.
