Rays Bring Back Familiar Face on a Minor League Deal

The Tampa Bay Rays and catcher Francisco Mejia are in agreement on a minor league deal with an invite to Spring Training. According to Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times. Mejia is a name a lot of Rays fans are familiar with as he has spent a few years with the Rays.


Francisco Mejia was apart of the 2023 Rays. Although, he was a free-agent this off-season. Mejia then signed with the Los Angeles Angels, but asked for a release. Now, Francsico Mejia will be on the Rays once again.


The 28-year-old Francisco Mejia is a former top 30 prospect in all of baseball. Many people saw a lot of talent in Mejia. In Mejia's time with Tampa so far, he has had a total of 362 plate appearances at the MLB level across four seasons. Mejia slashed .225/.282/.386 in his 362 plate appearances.


Spring Training games have been going on for a little over a week. Francisco Mejia already knows the Rays organization, so, he will begin games with the Rays soon. Francisco Mejia will have the chance to make the opening day roster for the Rays, but he will have to earn it in Spring Training.
