The Tampa Bay Rays announced yesterday that they have placed shortstop Wander Franco on the restricted list, which takes him off the roster and is, in most cases, unpaid, an MLB official tells ESPN. The league has launched an investigation into social media posts about Franco from Sunday. (Per Jeff Passan of ESPN)

The 22-year old SS is under investigation as he has been accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a minor, per Instagram posts from multiple accounts.

The Rays decided to comment on the investigation.

“The Tampa Bay Rays and Wander Franco have mutually agreed that he will go on the Restricted List and take leave from the Club for the duration of the current road trip.” MLB is investigating allegations made about Franco in social media posts. (Per Jon Morosi of MLB Network)

The Rays and MLB are doing their due diligence on the investigation and will provide updates as they look into the situation more in the coming days. Franco will likely be out of the lineup and away from the Rays until they wrap up the investigation.
