Yesterday, the Tampa Bay Rays announced that SP Shane McClanahan will undergo Tommy John surgery next week and not only miss the rest off 2023, but the entire 2024 season per Bob Nightengale.
The terrible news comes at a bit of a shock as many believed McClanahan could be back in 2024. This comes at a huge cost to the Rays pitching staff that already has been decimated by injury all season long.
McClanahan flourished into the ace once Blake Snell was dealt just a short time ago. McClanahan pitched to a 11-2 record with a 3.29 ERA and 121 strikeouts. McClanahan will most definitely be missed in the Tampa Bay rotation.
