ST. PETERSBURG, FL: Before today’s game against the Astros, the Rays intend to recall top infield prospect Junior Caminero from Triple-A Durham, according to Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times.
This is his first season-long promotion. Since the Rays summoned Caminero up in September of last year, he is already listed on the 40-man roster.
At the end of the previous season, Caminero, 21, made seven appearances for Tampa Bay. Despite hitting his first big league home run, he only had an on-base percentage of .278.
Despite having him on their roster for the Wild Card, the Rays never used him in a postseason game. Unsurprisingly, Tampa Bay optioned Caminero to Durham following Spring Training this year, having rushed him straight from Double-A to the majors.
