The Boston Red Sox acquired outfielder Tyler O'Neill from the St. Louis Cardinals in exchange for right-handed reliever Nick Robertson and right-handed starter Victor Santos. Per, ESPN's Jeff Passan. This is a good move for the Red Sox that didn't cost much.
Tyler O'Niell has had an up and down career so far. Although, a change of scenery could go a long way. Tyler O'Niell has the potential to be a good player in MLB. He's shown many flashes of that with the St. Louis Cardinals.
One way to stay consistent, is to stay healthy. In Tyler O'Niell's career, that has been the biggest issue. Tyler O'Neill hasn't played more then 138 games in a season in his entire career.
Tyler O'Niell games played by each season:
2018: 61 Games
2019: 60 Games
2020* (60 game season): 50 Games
2021: 138 Games
2022: 96 Games
2023: 72 Games
In Tyler O'Neill's six-year career, he's played a total of 477 games. Across his career, he's slashed .248/.318/.458, with 78 career home runs, 217 career RBI's, 363 career hits, and a .776 career OPS.
With that, Tyler O'Niell needs to stay healthy. O'Neill is making just $5.4 million next season. The Red Sox didn't give up much for him. If Tyler O'Neill can stay healthy, this will be the perfect move. Hopefully O'Niell can stay healthy and we can finally see a full season of him.
