The Boston Red Sox have acquired first baseman Garrett Cooper from the Chicago Cubs. Per, Christopher Smith of Mass Live. Going back to the Cubs is cash considerations. The Red Sox are getting a veteran leadership who will fit good in a clubhouse with a good amount of young ball players. That pairs well, teams can always use leadership in their clubhouse.

The Red Sox and Garrett Cooper talked this off-season about a potential deal. It didn’t work out. Now, while their starting first baseman Triston Casas is out, Cooper will be a big part in the Red Sox offense.

Garrett Cooper has a lot of experience at the major league level. This year is Cooper’s 8th season at the MLB level. In 12 games this year, Garrett Cooper is slashing .270/.341/.432, with a total of 1 home run, 6 RBI’s, and a .774 OPS. Those are pretty solid numbers for not getting much playing time.

It’s a lot more likely that Garrett Cooper will get more playing time with the Red Sox. Especially the next few weeks. Cooper will be an important piece on the Red Sox roster. Garrett Cooper now has a new home in Boston.
