According to Jon Heyman of The New York Post, infielder/outfielder Tony Kemp has signed a minor league contract with the Reds, that includes an invitation to big league camp.
Kemp, 32, just finished a disappointing season with the Athletics. Even though his strikeout to walk ratio was 10.5% compared to 9.5%, he didn't do much damage when he put the ball in play. With just a .209/.303/.304 slash, he compiled a wRC+ of 77.
Kemp is a great option off the bench and provides above average defensive at two positions, making him versatile. The Reds are a young club with a lot of potential heading into the 2024 season.
With Kemp's career likely heading to an end in the next few seasons, his leadership in these young clubhouses will become a strength. His ability to command two positions while providing decent swing with the bat will make him an asset in Cincinnati.
